That’s the first thing I saw when I read this article on South Carolina’s teacher shortage that hit a crisis stage this year. Part of the problem is retirements – from the article
“According to a 2015 CERRA survey, South Carolina does not produce a sufficient number of teachers each year to replace those retiring or leaving the profession, especially in the sciences, social studies, mathematics and special education.
More than 5,300 did not return to their teaching jobs in the fall of 2015, a 33 percent increase over the fall of 2014 and a 66 percent increase over the fall of 2013.”
