It is the most critical shortage schools face today. The Special Education teacher shortage has hit school really hard this year. Arkansas has 400 Special Ed teachers on waivers because they cannot fill all the positions they have open.
According to an article from Arkansas the reason for the shortage is that: “Teachers that end up pursuing a special education license are nearly twice as likely to leave the profession than their counterparts in general education, at a rate of about 12 percent, according to the National Coalition on Personnel Shortages in Special Education and Related Services.” – mainly because of the paperwork associated with Special needs students.
Over the last two years we have provided over 1,700 special education teachers to our schools. So while we know we can’t solve all the shortages – we can provide immediate help to our schools.
