We are here at the Education Commission of the States conference and one of the first questions they asked is where are the teachers. The showed the graph demonstrating the huge drop in college students going into teaching.
In 2010, 725,000 college students selected education as their major. By 2013 it was already down to 464,000 – a 30% loss.
As we spoke with education leaders from around the country, they all wanted to hear more about how we can find 6,000 new teachers for Texas schools and how that would work in their state.
It is our goal – to quickly move forward to provide schools the teaching talent they need. Judging by the response so far – we are going to grow rapidly.
