Pearson CORE to ETS Praxis: What You Need to Know
Congratulations on taking the next step towards your dream teaching job! Indiana Teachers wants you to succeed throughout all steps of your journey, which is why we’re keeping you updated with changes to the licensure process. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is officially moving from the Pearson CORE exams to the ETS Praxis exams. Starting September 1, 2021, the IDOE and Indiana Teachers will not accept Pearson CORE exams. In this blog, we’re going to break down each step so you can get licensed!
Pearson CORE vs ETS Praxis
The IDOE is officially transitioning to the ETS Praxis exam. What does this mean for you? Starting July 1st, the IDOE and Indiana Teachers will start accepting Praxis exams for some subject areas, along with certain test combinations listed here. The IDOE and Indiana Teachers will accept both the Praxis and CORE exams taken between July 1st and August 31st. This means if you’ve registered to take your CORE exam between July 1st and August 31st, your scores will still be accepted, even if you send your scores in after the September 1st deadline has passed. If you take a Pearson CORE exam after September 1st, your score will not be accepted. You can learn more about the new testing requirements on the IDOE website and check out a full list of license areas with the corresponding Praxis exams here.
Study Materials
If you’re planning on taking your Praxis exam, you’re probably also looking for study materials to make sure you’re 100% prepared. We’re here to help you with your search! The ETS Praxis website provides interactive practice exams, as well as other leading professional resources. We’ve also compiled some study resources that may help you, along with some amazing discounts! These amazing test preps include The Learning Liaisons, Study.com, and more! To see a full list of the study resources and test prep discounts that we offer for both the Praxis and CORE exams, check out our State Tests resource page.
Take Your Praxis From Home
Taking your Praxis exam can be less stressful now that you can take it from the comfort of your own home! On the ETS Praxis page, you can find how to create your account, available testing dates, and a registration link for the Praxis exam you’d like to take. The exam content, format and on-screen experience are identical to those taken in a testing center. You’ll take the exam on your computer in your home and be monitored by a human proctor online. Be sure to select ‘IN Teachers of Tomorrow’ when registering for your exam, so your scores are automatically sent to us. These tests are available seven days a week, so you’ll be able to take them on your own time! To see the full list of tests available and to learn more about the home testing procedure, click here!
How to Send in Your Scores
When you register for your exam, you will need to select ‘IN Teachers of Tomorrow’ from the list of program options. This will ensure your scores are automatically sent to us once your exam has been graded. If you forget to complete this step prior to registering, no worries! You will receive your scores in PDF format and can simply forward that email on to us at Teach@INTeachers.org. Once we’ve received and processed your report, your intern portal will be updated, usually within one week of the scores being reported.
To confirm we have received your scores, look at the ‘Pass Exam’ section on the ‘What’s Next Checklist’ in your Intern Portal. There will be a checkmark by ‘Pass Exam’ if we have received your scores. It’s as easy as that!
