Right now is the perfect time to start our program and complete the requirements to start your dream job. If you’re ready to become a teacher in South Carolina, just follow the steps below.
If you haven’t already, submit your application. A Program Advisor will call you to conduct a phone interview and assist you in choosing the area(s) that best match your skills and interests.
Send your official transcripts to South Carolina Teachers either by mail or by eSCRIP-SAFE (if offered by your institution) as soon as you submit your application.
Start your training right away. Once your enrollment fee is paid, you can log into your Intern Portal and begin the Preparing for the Profession module to get started.
Prepare to pass the Praxis II Subject Area Examination (SAE) for your approved certification area. Our free and discounted study resources give you that extra boost to pass your exams.
After you pass your exam, you will submit your application for the Alternative Route Certificate to the South Carolina Department of Education.
Begin looking for teaching positions after passing the Praxis II SAE. You will receive your Statement of Eligibility from the state shortly after submitting your application, so it doesn’t hurt to get started right away. The South Carolina Department of Education will issue your first one-year Alternative Route Certificate upon hire and receiving verification of employment from your new employing school district.
Start your first year teaching with full support. Once you are hired, you will begin teaching with full pay, full benefits, and full support. You receive guidance from your South Carolina Teachers Field Supervisor, an experienced educator who will visit your classroom 3 times throughout the year and is always on-call to answer your questions.
