{"id":10830,"date":"2018-06-27T10:50:20","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T15:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/?p=10830"},"modified":"2018-06-27T10:50:20","modified_gmt":"2018-06-27T15:50:20","slug":"education-leaders-conference-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/blog\/insights\/education-leaders-conference-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Leaders &#8211; it&#8217;s conference season!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is that time of year when I hit the road to meet with fellow education leaders to hear what is working, what is not working and how we can do more to improve education. It is a veritable alphabet of conferences between now and mid-August:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NASDTEC &#8211; National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification<\/li>\n<li>ECS -Education Commission of the States<\/li>\n<li>CCSSO &#8211; Council of Chief State School Officers<\/li>\n<li>NCSL -National Council of State Legislators<\/li>\n<li>ALEC &#8211; American Legislative Exchange Council<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are especially interesting times in education and I hope to engage in lengthy discussions on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/teacher-shortage-infographic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teacher shortage<\/a> continues to impact schools and students<\/li>\n<li>How the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/06\/27\/606208436\/supreme-court-deals-blow-to-government-unions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court ruling on Janus<\/a> has a significant impact on teacher unions &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/teacherbeat\/2018\/06\/teachers_unions_after_janus_members_money_voice.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$50M budget cuts <\/a>and the possible loss of over 300,000 members announced already<\/li>\n<li>The Gates Foundation very expensive foray into <a href=\"https:\/\/chalkbeat.org\/posts\/us\/2018\/06\/21\/the-gates-foundation-bet-big-on-teacher-evaluation-the-report-it-commissioned-explains-how-those-efforts-fell-short\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher evaluation research<\/a> &#8220;finds scant evidence that those changes accomplished what they were meant to: improve teacher quality or boost student learning.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/blog\/insights\/diversity-teaching-workforce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diversity in teaching<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Teacher testing\u00a0 &#8211;
