{"id":1134,"date":"2016-08-08T18:53:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T18:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/?p=1134"},"modified":"2016-08-08T18:53:58","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T18:53:58","slug":"south-carolina-teacher-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/blog\/insights\/south-carolina-teacher-shortage\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina Teacher Shortage &#8211; &#8220;desperate&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWe\u2019re desperate,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re praying too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the first thing I saw when I read this article on South Carolina&#8217;s teacher shortage that hit a crisis stage this year. \u00a0Part of the problem is retirements &#8211; from the article<\/p>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>&#8220;According to a 2015 CERRA survey, South Carolina does not produce a sufficient number of teachers each year to replace those retiring or leaving the profession, especially in the sciences, social studies, mathematics and special education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>More than 5,300 did not return to their teaching jobs in the fall of 2015, a 33 percent increase over the fall of 2014 and a 66 percent increase over the fall of 2013.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am just beginning the process of figuring out what to do.
