{"id":1157,"date":"2016-08-18T15:30:53","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T15:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/?p=1157"},"modified":"2023-11-02T11:02:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T16:02:17","slug":"diversity-teaching-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teachersoftomorrow.org\/blog\/insights\/diversity-teaching-workforce\/","title":{"rendered":"Diversity in the Teaching Workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/the-nations-teacher-force-lacks-diversity-and-it-might-not-get-much-better\/2016\/08\/17\/1013620a-64ba-11e6-8b27-bb8ba39497a2_story.html#comments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New study<\/a><\/strong> out on the lack of diversity in the teaching workforce where\u00a0&#8220;while minority children account for half of the nation\u2019s student body in public schools, minority teachers make up just 18\u00a0percent of the workforce, creating a significant disparity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting that the article does not mention alternative teacher certification as a possible solution since this study shows that we have 46% minority teachers coming out of our program.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of diversity in teaching is well known &#8211; the fact that people keep pointing it out is not a solution.
