The 291 Core Subjects EC-6 exam is being updated to include increased content pedagogy and will be replaced with the 391 Core Subjects EC-6 exam. The last available date to take the 291 Core Subjects EC-6 exam is December 31, 2021. In preparation for change, Texas Teachers has only provided new approvals for candidates to take the exam on a case-by-case basis since January 1, 2021. \u00a0 Why is this happening?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

It may seem confusing to have an exam replacement, so why is this happening? The Texas Education Agency ensures that all certification exams are up to date with the most relevant information and testing measurements. Exams are updated to reflect current information to ensure educators are provided with the most accurate knowledge to achieve success in the classroom. For candidates who attempted but did not pass all subtests before January 1, 2021, the 291 EC-6\/Core Subjects EC-6 exam had been made available until the end of 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 When is this happening?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

The 391 Core Subjects EC-6 exam was made available on January 1, 2021. The last available date to take the 291 Core Subjects EC-6 exam is December 31, 2021. Beginning January 1, 2022, ONLY the 391 Core Subjects EC-6 exam will be available for testing. However, a passing score on the TExES 291 Core Subjects EC-6 exam can only be used for certification issuance of the Core Subjects with the Science of Teaching Reading and EC-12 PPR: EC-6 through December 30, 2022. So, be sure to register and schedule<\/a> testing times before your window of opportunity closes to become eligible for hire!<\/p>\n

\u00a0 How does this affect me?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

You may be wondering if this change affects you. If you are unsure about the affect on you, here is what we know. The replacement of 291 Core Subjects EC-6\/Core Subject EC-6 primarily affects candidates who have passed the exam but remain unhired and candidates who have taken the exam and not passed. If a candidate has not completed all requirements for certification by December 30, 2022, the new 391 Core Subjects EC-6 exam will need to be taken to gain certification or become eligible for hire even if the candidate originally took the 291 Core Subjects EC-6. With that in mind, if you do not pass your attempt before the deadline, it does not mean you are out of luck. If a candidate is unable to pass the 291 Core Subjects EC-6 five times, they are still eligible to take the 391 Core Subjects EC-6 five more times.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 What to expect\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re nervous about what to expect for the exam, there\u2019s no reason to be worried. In order to take any of the TExES Core Subjects tests, the exam needs to be taken in one of the qualifying test locations. You must bring your admission ticket, which can be found on the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program website, as well as, an identification document in order to take the exam. Finally, you do not need to bring calculators because everyone will be given one on screen when taking the TExES core subjects EC-6 exam.<\/span><\/p>\n
